New cleantech industry
Positive effect on the economy
The development of the wind industry in the Belgian North Sea has a positive impact on the national economy, in particular through job creation and the export of Belgian companies' knowledge and know-how:
- Potential impact on added value of around €1 billion per year for the period 2010-2030;
- A better trade balance;
- A positive impact on public finances.
In total, between 15,000 and 16,000 permanent jobs will be created between 2010 and 2030 following the development of wind energy in the Belgian North Sea. The wind energy industry is the source of many jobs thanks to its expertise in the development, construction, operation and maintenance of wind farms.
Over the years, Belgian companies have developed internationally recognized expertise. Belgium has thus quickly risen to the top in the field of offshore wind energy. This pioneering role has enabled Belgian companies active in offshore wind energy to export themselves abroad at European and international level.
