In the Belgian sector of the North Sea, the Marine Spatial Plan has designated a zone for wind turbines. Within this zone, nine area concessions have been granted, spread across eight wind farms. These farms are all operational and generate green electricity.
Today, Belgium’s offshore wind farms represent an installed capacity of 2,262 MW, covering 10% of Belgium’s total electricity demand. With the planned roll-out of the Princess Elisabeth Zone, divided into three blocks, an additional 3.5 GW of offshore wind capacity can be developed. That is enough to supply all Belgian households with green electricity.
