A climate-neutral Belgium by 2050 at the lowest societal cost

02/04/2024

In recent years, EnergyVille has been researching the optimal way to achieve a climate-neutral Belgium by 2050 at the lowest societal cost.

In the study Paths2050, it is shown that investments in offshore wind are no regret options in all scenarios as access to additional offshore wind enables early electrification of demand sectors and contributes significantly to lowering overall system costs.

EnergyVille/Vito published recently a new sensitivity scenario to analyse the impact towards more sustainable patters in transport and living. In this sensitivity scenario also, there is a strong push for offshore wind, as the model decides to invest in offshore capacity as soon and as much as possible indicating it can bring down system costs. Investing in offshore wind remains a no regret option for Belgium!
