The Board of Directors of the Belgian Offshore Platform (BOP) has appointed Jaak Rutten as chairman of the BOP.
He succeeds Jean de Leu, who occupied the chairman’s position for four years and has now been appointed as honorary chairman.
Jaak Rutten has been active in the energy sector since 2000 as the founder and CEO of Luminus and as a director of EDF-Luminus.
Since January 2012, he has been the CEO of C-Power nv.
In July 2013, the first Belgian offshore wind park on the Thornton Bank was finalized under his leadership. In addition, Jaak Rutten also has more than four years of practical experience in the operational exploitation and maintenance of the C-Power park.
As a result, his knowledge of the sector makes him ideally placed to take on the chairmanship of BOP.
“It is thanks to the vision, the courage, and the persistence of important Belgian industrial investors, united in the BOP, that the offshore wind energy sector in Belgium is trendsetting not only in Europe but throughout the world, even though the sea area available to Belgium as a country is relatively small. A new and important branch of industry has been created that offers a huge potential for future employment and excellent export opportunities for our companies. Even so, the BOP and its members still face important challenges in the areas of financing, technology and regulation, to ensure that the planned wind energy projects are successfully completed by 2020 , which is essential if Belgium wishes to meet its 20-20-20 targets,” says Jaak Rutten.
